What’s the deal with BBJ?  Why do I need it?

With OSAS 7.0 you will have a choice:
The standard BBX (which is the programming language that OSAS has used during its entire 30 year history) or the new BBJ.
There are no differences in the upgrade/update paths for these two versions of OSAS: If you are current on your Maintenance program (which always is a good idea, totally), you will receive either the BBX or the BBJ version (your choice) of OSAS 7.0.

So, why choose one over the other?  There are advantages and drawbacks of both choices.    Here are some characteristics:

Benefits of the BBx version

  • Lesser system requirements
    Other Considerations:
  • Fewer enhancements than in BBj version

OSAS 7.0 BBx AND BBj Enhancements:
  • Data Server (that means speed and performance)
ODBC productivity reports included (no separate cost for ODBC)
New installation procedures allow all applications to be
selected and installed in one pass)

  • User logins (you can login to “your” settings from anywhere)

  • Modification directories (so that updates on modified systems will be easier and faster)
  • Address lookups with maps
  • Shipment tracking
  • New General Report Writer   (and this is the easiest to use Report Writer ever!  Just click on the fields you want and drag
and drop them to  where you want them!)

    the BBx version
